Short answer

Last Pirates: Die Together supports in-game voice chat. The developer says your microphone must be enabled in the game settings. If you cannot connect to a friend, the first official check is to make sure both players selected the same region.

That is the full pre-launch troubleshooting path the developer has published. The Early Access build was not live when this page was checked, so menu locations, push-to-talk behavior, ports, NAT advice, and deeper network fixes are not yet verified.

Is voice chat built into the game?

Yes. The pinned developer FAQ explicitly confirms in-game voice chat. Steam also discloses in-game chat and online interactions on the store page.

The FAQ does not say whether the voice system is proximity-based, always-on, voice-activated, or push-to-talk. It also does not publish individual volume controls or a mute workflow. Those details should come from the live settings menu, not assumptions based on other co-op horror games.

What can you prepare before launch?

The developer's only setup instruction is to enable your microphone in the game settings. Before a launch session, you can also perform basic operating-system checks that do not depend on a guessed game menu:

  1. Confirm the microphone you want to use is connected and works in another trusted application.
  2. Check that Steam and desktop applications are allowed to use the microphone in your operating system's privacy settings.
  3. Disconnect or disable unused inputs if your system regularly selects the wrong device.
  4. When Early Access unlocks, open the game's own settings and confirm the microphone is enabled there.

Steps 1–3 are general preparation, not developer-published game fixes. We will add exact input selection or push-to-talk instructions only after those controls can be seen in the current build.

Friends cannot connect: check the region first

The pinned FAQ gives one specific connection instruction: you and your friend should select the same region in the settings.

Use that as the first game-specific check:

  1. Ask every crew member which region is selected.
  2. Change the mismatched player to the same region as the host.
  3. Retry the invitation or join flow after the settings match.

The live interface may require returning to a lobby or restarting a session before a region change takes effect. Because Early Access was not available during our check, we cannot claim the exact refresh behavior yet.

If the same-region check does not solve the problem, stop before applying random port lists, VPN advice, firewall exceptions, or save-file edits from unrelated games. The developer asks players to report issues through the official Discord or Steam's Bug Reports & Technical Issues thread. A useful report should include the game version, both selected regions, the point where joining fails, and any exact error message visible on screen.

Can you use the official Discord to find a crew?

The developer has invited players to its Discord and previously pointed demo users there when public matchmaking was unavailable. That makes Discord an official community channel, but it does not prove that a public matchmaking browser will or will not exist in the Early Access build.

Our player count and co-op page keeps the distinction clear: solo and online co-op for up to four players are confirmed; launch-state public matchmaking is still waiting for verification.

What this page does not claim yet

Until the live version can be checked, we do not have reliable evidence for:

  • proximity voice range;
  • push-to-talk or voice-activation controls;
  • microphone test meters;
  • per-player mute and volume buttons;
  • platform cross-play voice;
  • required router ports or NAT types;
  • whether changing region affects save data or latency.

Publishing those details early would send players through menus that may not exist. This page will be expanded only after the current interface and at least one independent launch report agree.

For the wider objective that voice coordination supports, read the confirmed gameplay loop. Steam Deck users should also check the separate Deck support status, which distinguishes developer testing from Valve verification.
