Short answer

Yes. The public Last Pirates: Die Together demo is closed. The developer announced the closure on July 28, 2026, and directed players toward the August 18 Early Access launch. An older RetroStyle Games product page still displays demo wording, but the newer, dated Steam announcement is the clearer current status source.

For Early Access, the developer confirms more monsters, more locations, more content, and more polish than the demo. It does not provide a complete launch inventory, so individual levels, enemies, weapons, or progression features should be checked after the live build unlocks.

Demo status: closed, not merely hidden

The official closure post says the demo is “now officially closed.” That is stronger evidence than a missing Steam button or a third-party report. The same post tells players to return for Early Access and mentions that the team also runs closed playtests.

A closed playtest is not a replacement public demo. It may use invitations, limited windows, or work-in-progress builds. Joining the official Discord may put you close to announcements, but it does not guarantee access.

You may still find an official product page with “Play the demo” text. We treat that as stale because:

  1. the Steam closure post is dated July 28;
  2. it explicitly says the demo is closed;
  3. the Steam store itself showed the game as not yet released during our August 13 check.

Do not use third-party downloads, old test keys, or unofficial mirrors to bypass the closure.

What happened during the final demo period?

The closure announcement gives useful context for demand without turning those numbers into Early Access forecasts. The developer reported:

  • nearly 50,000 players over the final days;
  • more than 168,000 game launches in that period;
  • more than 900 players online at once on the final Sunday.

These are developer-reported historical demo figures. They do not tell us the future paid player count, retention, server capacity, or current concurrent population.

The Steam Early Access statement separately says the team's playtests and demo reached more than 100,000 players and already influenced systems, content, and bug fixes. Again, that describes development history, not a promise about launch-day traffic.

What is confirmed for Early Access?

The clearest official description says the Early Access build contains everything seen in the demo, “but bigger,” followed by four concrete categories:

  • more monsters;
  • more locations;
  • more content;
  • more polish.

The same page calls it a fully playable online co-op experience for up to four players. You can read the confirmed crew limit in our player count guide and the published objective in our gameplay loop explanation.

These statements are useful but broad. They do not establish the exact launch count for monsters, maps, weapons, consumables, customization choices, or progression levels. We will not copy a demo-era list and relabel it as the Early Access catalog.

Early Access is not the same as the 1.0 roadmap

The Steam page separates the playable Early Access state from the developer's ambitions for version 1.0. For 1.0, the team says it wants many more locations, new enemies and bosses, character customization, deeper progression, more weapons, cursed loot, and wider polish.

The wording matters. A feature listed as a goal for 1.0 is not automatically present on the first day of Early Access. Boss guides, complete cursed-loot lists, and progression builds therefore remain outside our launch content until the live game or a current official update confirms them.

The developer is aiming for at least six months in Early Access, with no fixed promise that 1.0 will arrive exactly six months later. Major updates during Early Access are planned to be free, while a possible price increase at full release has not been finalized.

What should you do before launch?

  • Wishlist or follow the game on the official Steam page to receive the store's launch notification.
  • Check our release date and status page for the August 18/19 regional date difference.
  • Use only official developer channels for closed-playtest announcements.
  • Wait for the live Early Access menu before relying on a guide about matchmaking, levels, settings, or specific enemies.
